My name is Ryan Patrick Mulvey. I am a native San Diegan and a
resident of Scripps Ranch. I am 20-years old student at the University
of San Diego, where I double-major in political science and history; I
have a minor in French. I am a vice president of the pre-law chapter of
Phi Alpha Delta, Law Fraternity International. I am a member of Pi
Delta Phi National French Honor Society, a leader in University
Ministry, and active in other on-campus organizations. I hold two jobs
to pay my way through school. That being said, I strongly believe in the
principles of personal responsibility and individual self-dependency.
I was educated in public school system, attending Jerabek Elementary,
Marshall Middle School, and Scripps Ranch High School. I graduate in
2006, with Academic Distinction. While in high school, I was a member
of the National Honor Society, California Scholarship Federation, the
National French Honor Society, and Tri-M Music Honor Society. I was
a drummajor in the marching band, involved with choir and musical
theatre, and was a leader in the Model United Nations. While in high
school, I also attend the American Legion's Boys State (as Bill Clinton
did when in a junior) and the Freedom's Foundation at Valley Forge.
Since these formative years, I have been active in local politics and
public service.
I am extremely involved in the local San Diego Community. I am
an Eagle Scout (as seen at left, with San Diego City Councilman
Brian Maienschein, and Project Wildlife). I am still involved with
Scouting and see the leadership and moral principles it instills in
America's youth as a fundamental part of traditional American
society. I hold the lessons and principles I learned in Scouting in
the highest regard and would hold myself accountable to such
high ethical and personal standards while a member of the Board
of Trustees.
I am also very involved with other community activities. I
regularly volunteer at the Bayside Community Center in Linda
Vista, tutoring local elementary school students. I am also a
devout Christian and active as the organist for the San Diego
Traditional Latin Mass Society.
I hold dear many of the same principles of other San
Diegans. I value the importance of family and tradition. I
value the education I have received, and continue to
receive. A solid, holistic education is essential to the
success of our students. The same applies to the
vocational training our community colleges provide for
those students who want to enter the workforce
immediately. Too often, the governance of schools
becomes dominated by labor unions or the interests of
liberal professors and the professional educational
complex. Rather than be political institutions, our
community colleges should focus on the education of
students. As a student myself, I present a bottom-up view
of the educational system, and will keep accountability a
foremost objective of the Board.
I am a strong conservative Republican. I sit as an
alternate for the San Diego County Central Committee, in
the 77th Assembly District Caucus. I also am a Delegate to
the California State Republican Central Committee, a post
I was appointed to by former Assemblyman and Superior
Court Judge, Hon. Larry Stirling. However, despite my
political life, I am not running to serve on the Board as a
political activist, representing the interests of a political
part or some other interest group. Those jobs are already
filled by the incumbents! Instead, I want to be an
advocate for the taxpayers and bring transparency to the
Board. I am running as a non-partisan candidate who only
wants to ensure special interests are not put before the
benefit of students, and ultimately, the betterment of our
society.
